Pixie Rain: straddling Art and Porn in Second Life.
Some of the machinima and blog-posts on this site are adult in nature and contain scenes that some people may find disturbing.
If you feel this might be you, please exit now.
Other elements are warm and cuddly and have a "feel good" factor.

Lazurus Doghouse and I are
still hard at work on our MachinimUWA VI entry, with a working title of “reflections of her”. The title may well
change! The deadline for entry is end-June and we are on target to complete by
the third week of June.
Nevertheless, even under
such pressure to get our film completed, I will always find time to post ‘Telegraph
Pole of the Month’!
This delightful pole, I
confess, was rezzed by me on our home sim. Lazy, I know, but nonetheless fully
deserving as I am sure you will agree.
Please continue sending your
LMs and pointers to the locations of great telegraphs poles – I visit them all!
“This life’s dim windows of the soul distorts the heavens from telegraph
pole to telegraph pole and leads you to believe a lie when you see with, not
through, the eye” - William Blake (1757 –
1827)
April’s Telegraph Pole of
the Month is a prop on the film set we have created at my home
region for Laz Doghouse's and my UWA
entry.
We hacked, modified and bastardised
various objects from different creators to make this cute “sweethearts engraving their initials onto a telegraph pole”
animation sequence.
In many respects The LoveHo Hotel
is just like lots of other ‘rent-a-room’ sex joints in Second Life. However it has one distinguishing and noteworthy feature which makes it well-worth your
time visiting and experiencing – The LoveHo Hotel has scripted escort bots!
Finally, someone has
discovered a worthwhile and valuable purpose for bots!
After choosing and paying
for your themed room, you teleport to the room and teleport in friend(s).
You can now use the room and its toys as any other sex hotel….or you can use
the phone by the bed to call an escort to visit you in your room! A selection
of male and females are available.
I toyed with Kazuki (male)
and Miya (female).
When your sexy escort first
arrives he/she sits in a chair, thanks you and announces (in open chat) that
he/she will do anything you want. And I
do mean *anything*!
You touch the sex bed, sex
bath or couples dance system supplied in the room, select a pose, grant the anim
perms and jump on a pose ball. Your oh-so-willing escort immediately joins you
on the other ball.
You can now use the sex toy
as you would with any other avatar.
This is such a bizarre idea
that everyone should try it at least once. Go on – go get yourself some B.B.C.
(Big Bot Cock) at the one and only LoveHo Hotel!
I’d love to make this into
an SL machinima. I think it would work perfectly on so many levels. Unfortunately,
I am unlikely to have enough time this year to devote to it. However if
someone else feels motivated to take it up, please give me a call as I’d love
to be involved in some capacity.
If no one does, I may have a
bash at it next year.

Le Grande performing their version of The Freaks “The Creeps”…
Great news from THE PORNSTARS blog…THE SEXIEST
machinima award ceremony will be held on 1pm SLT on Sunday 24th
March! This is one of the most fun and enjoyable events of the calendar. You
can read my thoughts about this year’s contest here.
To celebrate, I rode my favourite stallion hard across a film set we are
creating for Laz Doghouse’s and my MachinimUWA VI
film entry.
Details of the 6thUWA Machinima Challenge have been
released, with the headline news that this year the prize pool has been
increased to L$1,100,000. The first prize alone is L$200,000, more than enough to
keep me stocked in Ozimals rabbit food for a year!
This year’s theme is “Reflections”,
interpreted in whatever sense the machinimatographer sees fit. Entries have to
be submitted by midnight SLT 30th June 2013 with a recommended
maximum length of 4mins 30 secs.
This year I am collaborating
with singer-songwriter Lazurus Doghouse on a joint production.
Laz has already written and recorded a song especially for the contest; I will
handle the film and edit. The storyboard will be composed jointly between us.
When making films, my blog
here tends to go quieter as I direct all my spare leisure-time to the
production. I suspect that that will again be the case as, it goes without
saying, the competition attracts the very best filmmakers in SL and nothing
other than our very best efforts will suffix to make the grade.
Despite heroic
efforts from organisers and attendees alike, yesterday’s THE SEXIEST machinima
award ceremony had to be postponed. This was due to a combination of simulator
instability and a co-ordinated griefer attack.
All part and parcel of the much
coveted “Second Life Experience“ - nothing to make a big drama about. I just
hope Emmanuelle and her dedicated team haven’t taken too much of a hit because
of it.
“In Porn We Trust!”
And this personal message
from Emmanuelle:
“We
had some bad luck. Between a server and griefers, we couldn't hold the Sexiest
Awards show today.
But
we will make it even better, fine tune things, tighten security and have a new
show in just a few weeks.
Thanks for your patience. You were all wonderful
and supportive today”
Sunday sees the third annual
THE SEXIEST® adult machinima award ceremony. I am really looking
forward to it! The previous two years have been high-toned fun and enjoyable,
without doubt one of the highlights in my Second Life calendar.
Last year I presided as Chair
of Judges and therefore could not enter any of my own films
into the contest. This year I had intended to enter ‘The
Mainline’ but unfortunately it was not finished before the submission deadline.
I do however feel well represented because Tutsy’s ‘MetaSex’
has been nominated in three categories.
This year the film
categories have been rationalised down to eight and, in my opinion, this is a
very good improvement. With the possible exception of ‘Best Newcomer’, the new
arrangement allows us to concentrate on those aspects of adult machinima-making
which really are important rather than being distracted by appealing but
nonetheless peripheral considerations.
Bert Jedburgh’s ‘Bus Stop’
I think there is also a
valid argument for amalgamating the ‘Best Film’ and ‘Best Director’ categories
into a single ‘Best Adult Machinima’. Last year quite of number of the judges
sought advice of how to differentiate these two categories. Two judges in particular struggled
understanding the difference between the two categories. I guided as best I could but was
very mindful that – in the case of a Second Life machinima rather than a Real
Life film – the director not only “directs” but also decides the cast, decides
the storyline, films, edits, decides credit priorities and so on. It is
therefore a difficult division to make. One would naturally expect that the
same films/people which are nominated in the ‘Best Film’ category would also be
nominated in the ‘Best Director’ category. And, indeed, that is precisely what has happened
this year. For
the record, last year four of the five nominations per category appeared in
both categories; and the winner of ‘Best Director’ and ‘Best Film’ were in fact
the same film.
Hard Rust’s ‘Seams and Dreams Burlesque’
Logically then it would make
sense to amalgamate these categories. However, *emotionally* it does not make
sense! By combining these categories I think we would risk reducing the amount
of fun, excitement and, yes, let us be honest here, ego-stroking that THE
SEXIEST® awards provide. And the loss of any of those important elements
would be a great shame in my opinion. ‘Best Actor’, ‘Best Actress’, ‘Best
Director’ and ‘Best Film’ have long been considered the traditional “Big Four”
in film award ceremonies. There is nothing wrong with THE SEXIEST® mirroring
this tradition.
Thorgal MCGillivary’s ‘So You Wanna Be a Pornstar?’
We do however need to be
mindful that, although not necessary a “false dichotomy” as such, the differentiating
line between of these two elements of making a single machinima is very thin
indeed.
As for those five individuals
nominated for ‘Best Film’ and ‘Best Director’ this year, three were also
nominated last year:
· - Bert Jedburgh’s ‘Bus Stop’ is an attractive and
atmospheric offering showcasing Bert’s distinctive trademark delicate camera
work and visual dexterity.
- Hard
Rust’s ‘Seams and Dreams Burlesque’
is a well-constructed 1920’s style burlesque romp with a great storyline which
successfully captures the feel, sexual tension, suppression and experimentation
of the era. Great musical accompaniment too!
The other two nominee’s are newcomers
to the THE SEXIEST® awards, although in the case of Tutsy Navarathna
at least, the word “newcomer” is probably somewhat misplaced! I don’t intend
discussing ‘MetaSex’
in this blog-post as my feelings are well-known enough to not need any further
amplification here!
Tutsy Navarathna' 'MetaSex'
The final nominee is Nikki Arlington’s
‘Sketched – Episode 1’. This is a
superbly constructed “cartoon comic” style machinima which uses the same (or
similar) effects plug-in to that which made the outright winner of the 2012
Machinima Expo ‘The Chapelside Deception’ so
popular. However in my opinion, ‘Sketched’
is much more deftly and effectively handled.
There is not a single
nominee that would not deserve to walk away with the winner’s gong. The
standard is tremendously high.
Click
here for the full list of nominees in all eight categories.
The one name that is conspicuous by its absence is of course Serenity
Juneberry. Serenity, joint-winner with Arwen Juneberry of both last year’s ‘Best Film’ and ‘Best
Director’ awards has this year sacrificed her right to enter the contest
and instead chaired the panel of judges alongside Louise Silverweb. I know from
experience just how much of a time consuming exercise this role is!
Nikki Arlington’s ‘Sketched – Episode 1’
As I write this, the judge’s
names have just been posted on The
Pornstars blog. There are some familiar names to me, as well as some less familiar.
In all cases, they have devoted time and energy to this often thankless task.
It really is not easy.
Emmanuelle Jameson has again
taken responsibility for organising the build and decoration of the venue, as
well as all the other many sundry things she does! If the previous years’ are
anything to go by, it’ll be a great event.
The Red Riding Hood story
has been re-worked many, many times since the Brothers Grimm collected the original
French tale and popularised it throughout Europe in the early part of the 19th
century.
The tale appears to hold
symbolism and meaning which resonates with many people in many different
countries across the centuries.
There are of course numerous
ways to interpret the original tale, and its many variations and derivatives. The
sexual interpretation is so obvious and blatant that it barely even need be
mentioned here, except in passing.
I have also seen the Red Riding
Hood tale re-worked in Second Life numerous times – as machinima, photoshoots
and performances – the most memorable to date probably being Toxic Menge’s 2010 machinimawhere I
happened to be at the first in-world showing.
The frank truth is that I will
rarely get excited to read an all too frequent Group Notice announcing yet
another “re-telling of the classic Little Red Riding Hood story”. However, when the artists involved in the
re-working are as accomplished as Alpha Auer, Cherry Manga and Soror Nishi it
would just be churlish to give it anything but serious consideration.
With an appreciative hat tip to Quan Lavender I attended the opening of
their collaborative whole-region installation on Sunday evening. As one would
expect from artists of this calibre, the build quality is high, the atmosphere
immersive and the colours glorious.
the installation, called ‘The Companion’
For reasons which
will become obvious, the region is ‘Adult’ rated. Please use Windlight sky setting
“[TOR]SCIFI - Bridge opera 1” and ensure your ‘Sounds’ are turned on.
Due to its richness of
colour and imaginary, I suspect that ‘The Companion’ will deservedly form the
backdrop of many more ‘Red Riding Hood’ inspired machinima and photoshoots.
It is no reflection
on ‘The Companion’ that, of this latter prospect, I find myself somewhat less
excited.
It is with great pleasure that
we can now bring you the final result of February’s 2013 ‘Telegraph Pole of the Month’ competition…
And the winner is this
beautiful telegraph pole created by Debora
Stine - available from both her in-world and marketplace stores.
When my eyes first beheld
it, I knew had to have it for my own land! This was not a spontaneous impulse-buy
but rather the satisfying of a burning need and yearning buried deep inside me.
Debora, as many of you will already know, is also one of SL’s most talented
and popular adult photographers. Her flickr
account has many great pictures, successfully combining great
visuals, great humour and sexiness. Check out her work!
The Telegraph Pole
Appreciation Society provides refuge for those of us who bask in the glory of
the “everyday mundanitude of these simple
silent sentinels the world over.”
If you know of or discover
any other visually interesting telegraph poles or electrical pylons in-world,
be sure to leave details in the comments below or IM me in-world!
You never know, you too
could be cited in a ‘Telegraph Pole of
the Month’ blog-post! Imagine!
I have recently been intensively
working on my next adult movie, ‘The
Mainline’. It has just entered the final stages of editing and colour
correction and I’d hope to release it in two weeks, give or take.
Tonight I worked on creating
this movie poster using screen shots from the film while listening to Laz Doghouse
performing live in SL.
Lazarus Doghouse visited my
studio for this ‘unplugged’ recording of him performing one of my favourite songs
by him.
I’ll have a lot more
to say about this film in a future post dealing with post-production and colour
correction but in the meantime, please enjoy ‘Lazarus Doghouse – Discovery’ in

I now have the details for
Miron Lockett’s marvellous iClone
created ‘Unfinished Paintings’ and, as
promised, have embedded it below.
This machinima won the 4th
Jury Prize at last weekend’s Machinima Expo and, additionally, was
awarded the much valued ‘Audience Choice’ award.
I love it. Klute, I have a
feeling that you will too!
The Machinima Expo was a
great, well-organised event which took a lot of work by lots of
people. Discoveries like this machinima, made outside of SL, open my eyes to
various new possibilities. This may well
be the single most important contribution that the Expo contributes to the new
genre of machinima.
If you get the chance, I’d especially
recommend watching Miron Locket’s ‘Unfinished
Paintings’. This is a great, fun high-tone production made in iClone by a
clearly extremely talented guy, musically and visually. Unfortunately I haven’t
been able to locate the film on the net to embed here, but when I do I will.
Hypatia Pickens’ ‘Wulf and Eadwacer’ is based on an Old
English poem and has a great rhythm and beat. Definitely worth watching.
‘The Chapelside Deception’ by IceAxe is a more conventional narrative
film consisting of “a beginning, middle and end”. Created using MovieStorm, it
tells the story of corruption in a soccer team during the 1970s.
As part of the Expo, Tutsy
was asked to produce a video interview based on questions supplied by Ricky
Grove. I provided the translation from French to English.
For the first time, we can now
release that interview publically.
‘MetaSex’ and ‘The Last Syllable of Recorded Time’ by
Tutsy Navarathna have both been selected as MachinimaExpo 2012 Jury Nominated films!
They will go into competition against eight other films, with the results
announced in mid-November.
As mentioned before, what is interesting and significant about the
MachinimaExpo Jury Nominated competition is that film entries can come *from*
any digital platform, not just Second Life. This year sees five entries from
SL, three created using Moviestorm
and two using iClone.
Here is the list of nominees and links to the films (where I
have been able to find them).
-Libre Arbitre by Olivier Romme (France,
Moviestorm)
- Unfinished Paintings by Miron Lockett (US, iClone)
Over the next week I’ll get around to watching all ten films
and, although I wish each entrant the very best, it is admittedly somewhatdifficult for
me to be anything but biased.
And on that confessional note, let us yet again take the
time to immerse ourselves in the glorious light that is ‘MetaSex’ :
November sees the opening of this year’s MachinimaExpo. What is particularly significant
about the MachinimaExpo is that film entries come from many different games and
MMOGs, not just Second Life.
Of the hundreds of entries, a 5-person jury panel selects
just ten to go forward into competition against each other. The names of the ten
selected machinima will be released later this week.
Last year I attended the Expo and blogged the experience here. It was a really very enjoyable
evening. As I said at the time, the real eye-opener was realising just how much
great machinima is being created outside of SL. The ten nominated films last
year included, for example, entries created in Grand Theft Auto and Pro Evolution
Soccer. The eventual winner, Phil Browne’s adaptation of the HP Lovecraft's classic ‘The Haunter of the Dark’ was created
using iClone.
It would, of course, be remiss of me not to drop in here
that Tutsy’s ‘A Journey Into the Metaverse’ was
awarded second place.
If last year is anything to go by, the ten nominated films
will be of exceptional quality. Personally I would have been proud to have
created any one of the ten! We’ll know the ten soon, and I can’t wait to watch
them…
In the meantime, here is the official trailer for this year’s
MachinimaExpo:
